Tron founder Justin Sun received a total of $8.75 million in EIGEN tokens through an EigenLayer airdrop, as reported by blockchain analytics platform Arkham Intelligence.

The analysis platform released this information last Tuesday (1st) in a post on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

“Justin Sun received $8.75 million airdrop from EigenLayer. How much did you receive?” asked the publication.

On the same day, EigenLayer released transfer restrictions on the EIGEN token, allowing it to be traded on several exchanges. This release came after the distribution of 86 million tokens during the protocol's second “stakedrop” season. Until then, the tokens issued in the two distributions (the current one and the one held in April) were unavailable for transfer.

Data suggests that Justin Sun held his EIGEN tokens on HTX, an exchange where he serves as an advisor. In February, Sun had already published a screenshot of his wallet on the platform, indicating that, at the time, he owned around US$1.6 billion in crypto assets.

This Tuesday, the EIGEN token costs US$3.50, according to information from CoinGecko. In the last 24 hours, the token's price fell by almost 9%, in line with a widespread drop in the crypto market.

EigenLayer is a platform that allows users to stake ether (ETH) to secure third-party networks or actively validated services. Currently, the total value locked (TVL) in the protocol is above US$12 billion, a value significantly lower than the peak of US$20 billion recorded in June this year. Despite the drop in TVL, EigenLayer still maintains a diluted valuation of over $7 billion.

The recent release of tokens for trading after stakedrop and the participation of figures such as Justin Sun reinforces interest in the project and its potential impact on the staking and decentralized finance (DeFi) market.
