EigenLayer, one of the largest platforms in the Ethereum ecosystem, faces a new security issue. On October 18th, EigenLayer's official account on X (formerly Twitter) was hacked. As a result, the account started displaying a fake airdrop campaign to users.

The malicious post redirected users to a fraudulent link, supposedly related to the platform's restoring protocol. However, the objective was actually to steal information and funds.

The fake campaign promised additional rewards for participants in a previous EigenLayer airdrop, leading many users to click on the link. However, the malicious link had no relationship with EigenLayer, and its sole purpose was to harm unsuspecting users.

The post on the hacked EigenLayer account disappeared within minutes of its publication. This indicates that attackers may have lost access to the account. Despite this, the initial damage had already been done, and the misleading publication reached several followers.

Pseudonymous investigator ZachXBT, known for monitoring suspicious activity on the blockchain, quickly warned users about the danger of the fraudulent link.

In a Telegram post the same day, ZachXBT warned:

“EigenLayer’s X/Twitter account is compromised, do not click on any links.”

With the growing popularity of EigenLayer, which currently has over $11 billion in total value locked (TVL), it is possible that a large number of users have accessed the malicious link.

This incident marks the second attack against EigenLayer in the month of October. At the beginning of the month, an attack compromised the security of a wallet linked to the protocol. The attack resulted in the unauthorized sale of 1.6 million EIGEN tokens, valued at approximately $5.7 million.

At the time, the EigenLayer team investigated what happened and confirmed that the attack resulted from a compromise of an investor's emails, and not from vulnerabilities in the protocol itself.
